Sunday 6/1/2015: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced Oakland's pitcher Michel Ynoa is the American League winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in May. He struck out 34 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 3-0 while pitching 34 innings. His ERA in May was 1.10. In 10 starts this year Michel struck out 62 batters in 60.1 innings of work. His ERA is 2.98, his record 4-4. New York (N)'s Eric Hurley had a terrific May, and it earned him the National League Pitcher of the month award. His record of 4-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 41 innings of work he allowed just 29 hits while striking out 25, compiling an ERA of just 1.10. Eric also fired a shutout. In 13 starts this year Eric struck out 55 batters in 85.1 innings of work. His ERA is 2.85, his record 6-2. Eric has pitched one shutout and one complete game. |
Sunday 6/1/2015: Alvarez (CLE) and Tate (STL) win monthly award The American League Batter of the Month award goes to Pedro Alvarez, Cleveland's starting third baseman. In 104 at bats he hit .327 with 10 HR and 30 RBI. His season features a batting average of .279 (57 hits in 204 AB), 15 doubles, no triples and 13 homeruns. Alvarez collected 42 RBI and 33 runs as well. He's 3rd in the American League in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! It's the 1st time that the National League Batter of the Month award goes to St. Louis' rightfielder Donovan Tate. Donovan pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .321 with 6 and 22 RBI while slugging .613. His season features a batting average of .315 (68 hits in 216 AB), 16 doubles, 4 triples and 12 longballs. Tate collected 37 RBI and 47 runs as well. He's 5th in the National League in RBIs and 3rd in homeruns! |
Friday 5/30/2015: Chicago (A)'s Espino severely injured CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A) is without its right-hander Paolo Espino for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Reid Brignac in a game against Tampa Bay. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Ruptured Bicep Tendon. Surgery will be performed next week. This season Espino compiled an ERA of 4.23, going 5-5 in 12 starts. He fanned 59 while giving up 77 hits in 72.1 innings. He's 10th in the American League in wins! |
Friday 5/30/2015: Erik Komatsu (BOS) will miss 6 weeks BOSTON - Boston's rightfielder Erik Komatsu hurt himself in the 1st inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Erik Komatsu will miss at least 6 weeks. After x-rays were taken the diagnosis did not surprise many: Herniated Disc Back. Surgery will be performed next week. While compiling an on base percentage of .395, Erik hit .326 and slugged .526. He has collected 31 runs batted in this year. He's 10th in the American League in batting! |
Monday 5/26/2015: Colorado's Rodriguez severely injured COLORADO - Colorado is without its right-hander Aneury Rodriguez for at least 5 weeks. He injured himself while throwing a pitch to Cesar Trevino in a game against San Francisco. His face showed signs of pain immediately after the ball left his hand. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Strained Rotator Cuff Muscle. Aneury has a record of 4-4 this season, with an ERA of 3.76. In 69.1 Innings he was able to strike out 61 batters. He has one complete game and one shutout. |
Monday 5/26/2015: Chicago (N)'s Shoppach wins Player of the Week award The Player of the Week award in the American League goes to Tampa Bay's Reid Brignac this time, as the second baseman displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Brignac helped his team with an average of .435 and 9 RBI in 23 at bats. Reid has gone 48 for 154 (.312) this season, hitting 8 bombs and driving in 24 runs. He has scored 30 runs on his own. The Player of the Week award in the National League goes to Chicago (N)'s Kelly Shoppach this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Shoppach helped his team with an average of .452 and 10 RBI in 31 at bats. |
Sunday 5/25/2015: Philadelphia's Zachary Collier clears fence three times ATLANTA - Zachary Collier powered Philadelphia to a 9-5 win over Atlanta. He did it in style by homering three times. A 450 foot drive to right field marked his 1st bomb, a two-run homerun off Daniel Bard in the 3rd inning. Number 2 in the 7th inning, a shot estimated at 435 feet, cleared the wall in left field. The game was tied, 5-5, after the blast. His 3rd shot, off Craig Kimbrel in the 9th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. Zachary got 4 hits in 5 AB, stroking a double, scoring three runs and collecting 6 RBI. |
Thursday 5/22/2015: Mark Teixeira collects 2000th hit against Cleveland CLEVELAND - New York (A)'s players had every reason to congratulate Mark Teixeira, who reached a milestone today, collecting his 2000th career hit! He hit a single in the 6th off Brad Mills for number 2000. Along with his 2000 hits, Mark collected 396 homeruns and 1338 RBI in 12 seasons. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!' |

Monday 5/19/2015: Reyes and Walker win Player of the Week award Jose Reyes wins his 1st Player of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Jose went 16 for 27 (.593), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 5 RBI. It's the 2nd time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Pittsburgh's second baseman Neil Walker. He had an on base percentage of .619 and hit .556, while driving in 5 runs. His season numbers are: .253 AVG, 37 hits, 5 doubles, no triples and 6 bombs, along with 19 RBI and 18 runs scored. |
Sunday 5/18/2015: Atlanta's Hicks out for 6-7 weeks ATLANTA - Atlanta's shortstop Brandon Hicks will miss about 6-7 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 6th inning of the game between Atlanta and Washington. He fielded a ball off the bat of Miguel Angel Sano, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he's not OK. Atlanta wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Hicks had suffered a Ruptured Elbow Ligament. Brandon has gone 35 for 143 (.245) this season, hitting 7 longballs and driving in 22 runs. He has scored 23 runs on his own. |
Sunday 5/18/2015: Pedro Alvarez pounds three dingers CLEVELAND - Hitting a homerun is fine, but hitting three of them in one game is something special. Cleveland's third baseman Pedro Alvarez accomplished that feat in a 8-2 win over Los Angeles (A). His 1st shot, a two-run homerun off Aroldis Chapman in the 3rd inning, cleared the fence in right field. In the 5th inning he unloaded a three-run homerun off Aroldis Chapman. His 3rd blast, a two-run homerun off Manny Ayala in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 427 feet from home plate. Overall he finished with 3 hits in 3 AB, scoring FOUR runs with 7 RBI. So far this season he is batting .266 with 9 homers and 28 RBI. |
Friday 5/16/2015: New York (A)'s Otero severely injured NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s second baseman Elias Otero will miss at least 6 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Torn Abdominal Muscle which will require surgery. He has hit one homerun while batting .266 this season. His 38 hits and 5 walks add up to a .289 on-base percentage. |
Friday 5/16/2015: Dayan Viciedo (CHW) will miss 6-7 weeks CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s third baseman Dayan Viciedo will miss at least 6-7 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. Sunday 5/11/2015: Detroit's Morales out for 5 weeks DETROIT - Detroit's centerfielder Angel Morales hurt himself in the 3rd inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Angel Morales will miss at least 5 weeks. Detroit wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Morales had suffered a Broken Foot. While compiling an on base percentage of .393, Angel hit .341 and slugged .527. Monday 5/5/2015: Scott Kazmir out for 5-6 weeks TAMPA BAY - When it rains, it pours. Tampa Bay's left-hander Scott Kazmir will not pitch for at least 5-6 weeks, handing the team a huge setback. He suffered a serious injury in a game against Texas where he left the field in the 3rd inning. After being taken to a local hospital, Kazmir was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Strained Tricep Muscle. His ERA of 2.79 helped him to a 2-0 record this year. He struck out 30 and walked 10 in 38.2 innings. |

Tuesday 4/29/2015: Sean Doolittle drills 6 hits PITTSBURGH - Sean Doolittle saw the ball really well, leading Pittsburgh to a 14-4 win over Houston. His six hits thrilled his teammates and coaches, and Sean seemed happy as well after the game. A pitch from Tyler Matzek in the 3rd inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 401 feet from home plate in right-center. His 6th hit, a two-run homerun off David Robertson in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 392 feet from home plate. Thursday 4/24/2015: Los Angeles (N)'s Alex Gordon mashes five hits PHILADELPHIA - Alex Gordon is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. A pitch from Justin De Fratus in the 4th inning left his bat for a solo homerun, landing 447 feet from home plate in right-center. The game was tied, 2-2, after the blast. In the 5th inning he belted a RBI double off Justin De Fratus. His 4th hit was a double off Dan Haren in the 6th inning. A pitch from Nick Masset in the 9th inning left his bat for a double. Thursday 4/24/2015: Chris Parmelee pounds three dingers MINNESOTA - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Minnesota's designated hitter Chris Parmelee accomplished that feat in a 9-1 win over Portland. His 1st shot, a three-run homerun off Kyle Lotzkar in the 2nd inning, cleared the fence in left field. His 2nd shot, off Kyle Lotzkar in the 3rd inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Richard De Los Santos. Chris stroked 3 hits in 4 AB, scoring three runs and driving in 7 runs. Koby Clemens was the last player to hit 3 homeruns in a game, doing it 9/2/2014. Minnesota improved its record to 14-9, scoring 9 runs on 10 hits. |

Wednesday 4/16/2015: Duane Below quiets Tampa Bay bats with shutout DETROIT - Detroit's southpaw Duane Below is clearly one of the best pitchers in the game. Tampa Bay found out the hard way, getting just 2 hits. Below 2nd shutout this season was a masterpiece, as he was almost untouchable. He has now hurled 2nd shutouts in his career. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today.' Below (4-0) struck out 4 and issued 2 BB, throwing 61 of 95 pitches for strikes. Detroit's catcher Humberto Quintero went 2 for 3, doubling once. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Below. Detroit improved its record to 7-7, scoring 3 runs on 11 hits. |

Monday 4/7/2015: Player of the Week honors go to Price and Cantu The American League's best player of the week was Tampa Bay's David Price, who wins the award for the 2nd time in his career. Price was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.76. Along the way he struck out 16 in 15.1 innings. It's the 1st time that the National League Player of the Week award goes to Arizona's second baseman Jorge Cantu. In 19 at bats he hit .632 with 2 HR and 4 RBI. |
Wednesday 4/2/2015: Ryan Ludwick collects five hits against New York (A) BOSTON - Ryan Ludwick punished New York (A)'s pitching today, collecting five hits in 5 AB. That definitely helped Boston, they won the game 14 to 4. His 1st hit, a solo homerun off Spencer Arroyo in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 395 feet from home plate. His 2nd hit, off Spencer Arroyo in the 4th inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. It tied the ballgame at 4. Wednesday 4/2/2015: Duane Below quiets Minnesota bats with shutout MINNESOTA - It was a great day for Detroit's left-hander Duane Below. The 29-year old recorded his first career shutout, a 2-hitter, against Minnesota on Wednesday. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Below (1-0) struck out 8 and walked 2, throwing 63 of 107 pitches for strikes. Curtis Granderson helped Below at the plate, he got 3 hits in 3 AB, doubling once, and collecting 2 RBI. Detroit scored 6 runs on 10 hits. |
